USA "sneaks" past Finland

So we defeated a fundamental, hardworking Finland team tonight, 72-0.... all our backs got TDs and Lee should've had two, but both were called back for holding. Crazy. I am so proud of our team - not only for the great things that happened today - Rusty Sowers was a two-time MVP of the game, Tarsha had an awesome block that took down two girls and was the block heard round the world, Welter had an awesome sack, our defense blocked a punt, and Rusty returned a punt for a TD... and on and on.

The entire team got to play good minutes tonight.... which was great as our second and third sets of offense and defense are people any team would love to have. We came up with an awesome beat before the game and did it after halftime as well.... so much passion on our team and heart - you can't keep this team down.

Our opponent made the mistake of saying they planned to score 20-30 points on us... unfortunately for them our defense is like a rock, and it was never close.

I was disappointed in some of my mental game today... my snaps were bad for at least 3-4 plays and luckily Sami got things worked out for 2 of the plays. I got subbed to work it out and I went back in and we scored and things were better. Not sure if it's my hand or what.... need to just relax and believe.

The best thing about being on this team is that when one of us is struggling, we have a host of teammates to pick us up and keep things rolling. I'm really happy that Mully, Pickett, Riddle and Tarsha got some good playing time. Got to see Vet tonight - she had a long travel day and hopefully we'll be able to hang out with her on Saturday or Sunday before she goes back to England.

Inspiration

So I'm a crier, but I almost started tonight in our first meeting when the special teams coach told a story about how he read an article in 1990 that about 120 women played high school football. He spoke at a high school after that with one girl on the team. He said, "Boys, you are on a special team.... because of the 1.5 million boys playing high school football today.... you have this teammate who is one of 120 in the country." She wrote him a letter about the USA football team and what it means to her that we are playing REAL football. He even he had her senior picture from 1990 .... incredible. I love that we are representing the future of women's tackle football.... girls who love this game.... and girls who someday can aspire to get to this USA women's football team because they want to be the best in the world and play the best in the world...... My gratitude...

I'm going to have to go back through photos later and find some good ones of teammates past and present... but know that each and every person that I've played football with since the fall of 1999 (including my male high school teammates and coaches who gave me the love of this game) have been special and a part of my selection to TEAM USA. Every year, every trip, every person has taught me something. Along the way, I've met some lifetime friends and had some amazing experiences. The work for us on TEAM USA has just, but I'll NEVER forget all the people - teammates, my O-LINEs, coaches, trainers and friends who've supported this journey. For the big things and small things - for the love and support - for the opportunity to play football and love this game every day - for the sacrifices and for the tears ..... this is for ALL of you!
